WHY THE PROGRAM

Children today are navigating pressures at a younger age and more intensely than ever before. There has been a nationwide decline in school attendance, and more families are reporting that their children are experiencing school related anxiety. Children and youth are being exposed to cyberbullying at an earlier age due to social media, and the eSafety Commissioner has identified the transition to high school as a peak risk period.

Create Breathe and Be, exists to meet that moment early. Rather than waiting until a child is negatively challenged, the program builds emotional regulation, confidence and connection into everyday school life, through breath, movement, drama and music. Simple, practical tools rarely built into the school week in a structured, continuous way.

Primary school is the ideal window to build this foundation. Children who can creatively exercise self-control learn how to better regulate their emotions and reconcile after conflict. They are better prepared to manage the shift to high school, than those who are not given the chance to do so. This program is built on lived experience as much as evidence: a belief that every child deserves to feel safe, seen and creatively alive at school.
